ATCO Power Australia has ownership in, and operates, two power generation facilities in Australia with a combined capacity of 266MW. Our largest power generation asset in Australia is the 180MW Osborne Facility near Adelaide, South Australia, a joint venture with Origin Energy and operated by ATCO Power Australia. In 2010, ATCO Power Australia completed the commissioning of its 86MW open cycle power generation facility in Karratha, Western Australia.
Karratha Power Station
Commissioned in 2010 the 86MW Karratha Power Station is the most efficient and environmentally friendly power generation facility connected to the North West Interconnected System in the Pilbara. The facility generates electricity to supply residential and business consumers under a long term power off take contract with Horizon Power. The project was completed within budget and meets all performance guarantee requirements including output, heat rate, noise and nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions.
Osborne Power Facility
The Osborne plant located near Adelaide is one of Australia’s largest cogeneration facilities. The 180MW project is a 50:50 joint venture between ATCO Power Australia and Origin Energy and entered commercial operation in December 1998. Osborne sells its electrical output under a long term power purchase agreement to Origin. ATCO Power Australia operates the Osborne plant which is fuelled by natural gas from South Australia’s Cooper basin. The plant has been designed to enable operation in both cogeneration and combined cycle modes.
